Travel is as much about the food you eat as the places you go and the people you meet. Ingredients and dishes define regions, they are a source of pride to the locals for whom they have long been cooked by.
As I’ve travelled the world, alongside my wife and two young children, we’ve regularly discovered this importance of food with regards to cultural identity, the passion with which dishes are celebrated and the manner in which they are cooked and eaten with love.
We have always loved food, thinking about what to have for lunch before we’ve even finished breakfast, dreaming of certain dishes we know we can only get in certain locations. But it’s not just the eating of food, but also the procuring and preparing of it. Be it spending the morning at a market in France, learning to make cheese in the Swiss Alps, sampling spices in Morocco or mastering the art of rolling burek in Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Over the past year we have travelled throughout Europe, into North Africa and across into Asia in our Bailey of Bristol motorhome, a journey which has allowed us not only to expand our horizons but tantalise our tastebuds. It’s these travels and tastes that are the inspiration being a series of recipes that we will share with you over the coming weeks, all of which can be cooked on a Cadac.
The recipes will simultaneously showcase a range of flavours and, at the same time, the diversity of cooking on a Cadac, be it a hearty breakfast, a simple yet delicious lunch or a showstopper dinner. Here’s to a summer of great food and happy travels.
